PORTRAIT WITH APARTMENT BIKE
Wearing a helmet and a life-jacket - I finally rode this dangerous monstrosity in 2004. The bike is 11' long and 7' high with 2 redundant wheels, 3 headsets, a Volvo steering wheel attached via chain and spokes, 9 theoretically functional chains (here with only 7) and up to two drivers.

This work examines public space using a miniature imaginary bicycle constructed to be comfortable for the rider. A full size version of this would have limited functionality. Heavy accessories to bicycle will cause some of the problems of an automobile - reducing manoeuvrability - yet also, rider has a psychological safety boundary of questionable merit. It is to be ridden in traffic and be equal with cars: having bumpers and a muffler to take up the space as would a small car. There is also a roof and windshield to protect from the elements.
